Transportation
According to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), "Metro has hundreds of pieces of snow equipment available to tackle snow and ice at stations, rail yards, parking garages and bus facilities. Hundreds of employees and contractors can be called upon to respond to snow conditions.
During periods of severe weather, Metro may limit or curtail service for safety reasons."
In the case of snow, freezing rain or sleet, Metrobus routes can be altered or limited. For snowfall of over eight inches, Metrorail may suspend service at above-ground stations. Read more about what to expect.
Parks, Gardens & Recreation
In the case of snow and winter weather, federally operated National Park Service (NPS) sites may be affected. Open-air national parks like the National Mall and Rock Creek Park will remain open to visit, but services like ranger-led tours, Washington Monument access, the White House Visitor Center and memorial shops are closed.
Currently, Kenilworth Aquatic Garden and Frederick Douglass National Historic Site are also closed to the public.
