Did a Union Army general almost lose the 1863 Battle of Gettysburg for the North, or did he save the Army of the Potomac from a disastrous defeat? Learn about the controversial political and military career of Maj. Gen. Dan Sickles, focusing on his unorthodox and unauthorized tactics at Gettysburg, from Museum educator and military historian John Maass. Dr. John R. Maass is an education specialist at the National Museum of the United States Army. He received a Ph.D. from the Ohio State University in early U.S. history and military history.
