Still Missing: Colombia's Search for the Disappeared from Six Decades of Ongoing Conflict

Photo Exhibition at the U.S. Institute of Peace

Now - Nov 25, 2024. 10:00 a.m. to 04:00 p.m.

The U.S. Institute of Peace, together with Colombia’s Missing Persons Search Unit, presents “Still Missing: Colombia's Search for the Disappeared from Six Decades of Ongoing Conflict.” This photo exhibition details how the unit brings together victims’ families, perpetrators, communities, scientists, government leaders and more in a collective effort to find some degree of healing in the midst of the continuing violent conflict which has plagued Colombia since 1948.

The exhibition offers a firsthand look at forensic investigators’ efforts to exhume and identify the remains of individuals that were forcibly disappeared over the last six decades and return them to their families with dignity. Visitors are invited to reflect on the deep loss of lives cut short, the pain of waiting with waning hope, and the courageous work of a people — and a nation — searching for healing amid ongoing conflict.

Age recommendation for this exhibition is 14+. Please note this exhibition contains imagery and descriptions of violent conflict. Additionally, it addresses many topics related to violence and forensic field work, including the search for and discovery of mass graves and forced disappearances.
