Observe the Sun safely using a filtered telescope.

Fridays, Saturdays, Mar 06, 2026 - Mar 28, 2026. 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Become an astronomer and observe the Sun safely with a filtered telescope. Join us outside the Museum at the corner of 7th Street and Independence Avenue, near the silver Delta Solar sculpture, to view a variety of features on the Sun. Knowledgeable staff will be there to answer questions and guide observing.

No reservations are necessary to participate. This program generally takes place on Fridays and Saturdays, but will be cancelled if weather does not permit observing (clouds, rain, extreme temperatures).

Accessibility: The programming area is accessible step-free via the public sidewalk and the Museum's terrace. Written and touchable explanatory materials are available for learners of all types.

Sponsored by the Thomas W. Haas Foundation, Otto Haas Charitable Trust, The Waterman Trust, and Wyncote Foundation.
