The Chesapeake & Ohio Canal stretches 184.5 miles from Georgetown to Cumberland, MD. Mule-drawn boat trips available (April-Oct.). Wide towpaths open to bikers, joggers and hikers. The main entrance, visitor center and coach parking at the Great Falls Tavern Visitor Center in Potomac, MD. Admission: $10 per car. Contact park for additional fee admissions. Price can vary. Visitor Center open Wed- Sun. 9:30 am-4:30 pm.
Hear the stories of those who lived and worked on the C&O Canal, follow in the footsteps of the mules who pulled the canal boats, and ride through a 19th century lift lock. One-hour round-trip excursions depart from the Great Falls Tavern Visitor Center in Potomac, MD. Call ahead for current schedule. Tickets are $5 for children and $8 for adults. Groups of 10 or more people may make advance reservations by phone (301-767-3714).
