Georgetown Heritage

Georgetown Heritage and The National Park Service (NPS) are excited to be bringing a canal boat back to Georgetown after nearly a decade!

A new CO canal boat is available for programs and private rentals through the fall of 2022. Modeled on designs for historic packet boats that were used on the canal during its early years of service, the new design includes modem amenities and materials such as an onboard restroom, battery-powered electric motors, and a fiberglass hull to ensure visitor comfort and safety. The boat will be a vital resource to educate and engage residents and visitors to the District of Columbia. On each one-hour tour, visitors will learn about the fascinating history, technology and culture of the Canal, and the surprising stories of the people who lived, worked and played here over the past two centuries.
