Watch one of the NFL’s most historic franchises in Landover, Md.
Football season is here, which means Washington, DC has a fever for the local team. The Washington Football Team is led by head coach Ron Rivera, who led the team to a division title in 2020 in his first year at the helm. Here are a few reasons to enjoy their quest to reach the postseason for a second straight year in-person.
01
Taylor Heinicke leads an exciting offense
Seemingly emerging out of nowhere, starting quarterback Taylor Heinicke has risen to the occasion this season after presumed starter Ryan Fitzpatrick went down in the season opener. Heinicke is one of the most exciting players in the league, capable of a dazzling play at any moment. He’s supported by one of the best wide receivers in the league, Terry McLaurin, as well as multi-purpose running backs Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic.
02
The defense is always ready to rumble
While star edge rusher and team leader Chase Young has unfortunately been lost for the season, Washington still fields a defense that can take over a game at a moment’s notice. Run-stuffing defensive tackle Da’Ron Payne pairs with his former teammate at the University of Alabama, Jonathan Allen, to create a formidable defensive line that stuffs opposing run games. Quarterbacks always have to be aware of defensive end Montez Sweat, who has 20 sacks in just 40 NFL games. Linebacker Cole Holcomb has emerged as one of the team’s best defenders. The secondary features All-Pro safety Landon Collins, rising star Kam Curl and the recently acquired star cornerback, William Jackson III.
03
Rivals come to town
The rest of this year’s home schedule features a Monday Night Football matchup with Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks and battles against division rivals the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles. Every game will be a big game as Washington attempts to reach the NFC playoffs.
04
Enjoy gameday with a die-hard fanbase
Washington has one of the most loyal and dedicated fanbases of any team in any sport. Pre-game festivities can begin as early as 7 a.m. for a 1 p.m. game, with thousands of fan tailgating to their heart’s content in the lots that surround FedExField. Once inside, the stadium will be rocking as thousands of fans cheer on the home team.
05
FedExField has great amenities
The Bud Light Party Pavilion in the West End Zone is available to all fans in attendance and offers a renovated bar section, great sightlines and multiple high definition TVs showing games from around the NFL. The stadium’s food menu offers delicious items such as the Pit Bull, a foot-long, all-beef hot dog, in addition to chicken tenders, bratwursts, crab rolls, street tacos, papusas, steak and cheeses and much more. Check out a map of the stadium before you go.
