On this guided tour, explore the distillery where George Washington made his whiskey and the gristmill that produced thousands of pounds of flour and cornmeal a day.
Visit the fully-functioning reconstructions of George Washington's commercial ventures, his distillery and gristmill. Open for tours on weekends, April through October. Admission is included in the Mount Vernon ground pass.
During the tour, see the water-powered millstones that still grind flour and cornmeal today, and learn how we make George Washington's whiskey.
George Washington's Distillery and Gristmill is located 2.7 miles from the main estate entrance. Guests may arrive directly at the facility and free parking is available on-site.
Pancake flour, grits, and cornmeal that were ground at the gristmill are available to purchase on-site. George Washington's whiskey and other distilled spirits are also available for purchase.
Tours take place every 30 minutes on Saturdays and Sundays, April through October.
