HYROX North American Open Championships (March 1-2, Walter E. Washington Convention Center (WEWCC))

The HYROX North American Open Championships took place in DC for the first time. The event combines running and functional workout stations with each race hosted indoors in expansive exhibition halls, creating an immersive and electrifying race where spectators can support competitors.

 

Brazil Marketing FAM (March 4-7, Washington, DC)
Attendees: Letizia Sirtori, Emily Bates, Erica Riddle O’Neill, Erika Jones, Bianca Corallo 
The global tourism team welcomed four marketing managers from Brazil’s top tour operators to familiarize them with DC so each can effectively develop marketing materials for campaigns with firsthand knowledge of the city.

 

ITB Berlin 2024 (March 5-7, Berlin, Germany)
Attendee: Theresa Belpulsi
One of the largest travel trade shows worldwide, ITB Berlin included media sessions and meetings with clients. DDC sponsored a cocktail reception in partnership with United Airlines. Theresa also attended the IGLTA and Axel Hotels 2024 ITB LGBTQ+ Networking Reception in support of DC’s hosting of World Pride in 2025.

 

Reagan National Airport (DCA) Travelers Aid Presentation (March 5, Washington, DC)
Attendee: Georgia Lucas
Georgia provided a destination update to the Travelers Aid volunteers at DCA. These volunteers connect with thousands of travelers to DC every year and DDC wants to ensure each volunteer has the most current information on the city and DDC members.

 

International Women’s Day Celebration (March 8, Hotel Zena)
Attendee: Holly Rattanakone
Members that partnered with DDC to host this celebratory event at Hotel Zena included the Washington Spirit, DC Scores, Rock the Vote!, Voteforyourdaughter, Girls Computing League and EmmaG Music.

 

Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s and Women’s Basketball (March 8-17, Entertainment & Sports Arena)
Attendee: Nick Price
For the first time, the CAA hosts both its men’s and women’s basketball tournaments at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. The CAA, which has expanded to 14 members with the addition of Campbell University, first held the CAA men’s tournament in DC in 2020.

 

Dulles International Airport (IAD) Presentation (March 9, Washington, DC)

Georgia provided a destination update to the Travelers Aid volunteers at IAD.

 

South America Sales Mission (March 11-16, São Paulo/Bogotá)
Attendee: Emily Bates
DDC joins Brand USA on a mission to Brazil and Colombia. Emily will present to more than 240 travel agents and will attend 120 client appointments with tour operators and OTAs.
 

USA Fencing SJCC & FIE Foil Grand Prix (March 15-17, WEWCC)
Attendees: Nick Price, Holly Rattanakone, Noah Rosendorf, Chris Li, Mekhi Hayes
The Grand Prix will be held in conjunction with a Super Junior & Cadet Circuit tournament, giving juniors (20 and under) and cadets (17 and under) in all three weapons (epee, foil, saber) an opportunity to compete in the exact same venue as the world’s best foil fencers. For foil fencers hoping to secure their spot at the Olympic Games, the road to Paris makes its final stop in DC.

 

CRUSA DERTouristik Austria FAM (March 20-22, Washington, DC)
Attendees: Letizia Sirtori, Erika Jones, Bianca Corallo 
The global tourism team partners with Capital Region USA to bring 12 travel agents and two travel trade media participants from DER Touristik. Specializing in individual travel, their distribution network includes more than 9,000 travel agencies of which over 2,000 are either franchised or fully owned with broad product in DC.

 

Southeast Tourism Society (STS) Domestic Showcase (March 20-22, Little Rock, AR)
Attendee: Lindsay Hill
DDC will attend STS’s annual marketplace that connects group tour operators, tour leaders and suppliers from the southeast United States. Lindsay will conduct roughly 30 appointments. 

 

Travel Associates (TA) Australia FAM (March 28-30, Washington, DC)
Attendees: Letizia Sirtori, Miriam Chovanec, Erica Riddle O’Neill, Erika Jones, Bianca Corallo 
DDC will partner with Travel Associates, a boutique travel agency in Australia, on an upcoming promotional campaign. Travel Associates’ head of marketing will capture content showcasing luxury experiences in DC during the National Cherry Blossom Festival. The content will be featured during TA’s Four Seasons of Luxury Travel campaign and shared across their social channels (Facebook and Instagram), which reach more than 270,000 engaged luxury travelers.

 

Maryland Welcome Center Takeover (March 29, Aberdeen, MD)
Attendees: Lindsay Hill, Georgia Lucas, Tadj Phillips, Jennifer Porter
The Visitor Experience Team will interact with visitors at the Maryland House Travel Center to promote DC. DDC member ARTECHOUSE will also participate.
